Scattered rain, freezing rain and sleet is falling across much of South Central Kentucky. With surface temperatures at or below freezing, any precipitation is likely to freeze on contact causing hazardous driving conditions – especially on bridges, overpasses, ramps and untreated roads. Drive with caution this morning!
Warmer air and moisture moving over colder air near the ground will create some problematic weather conditions for this morning’s commute. To the north, precipitation is likely to be a mix of light snow/light sleet, but for Bowling Green and most areas along the KY/TN line, a mix of freezing rain and sleet is most likely. Since temperatures are expected to run in the upper 20s to near 30°, slick travel is a good bet this morning. Untreated roadways along with bridges and overpasses will be the most hazardous for travel. Allow yourself some extra time to reach your destination. By late morning into early afternoon, road conditions should improve as the wintry mix ends and readings climb above the freezing mark. Highs should reach the mid to upper 30s this afternoon.
THE WEEKEND AND BEYOND
The weekend begins dry and cold before a warmer but wetter pattern takes shape for Sunday into midweek. Periodic chances for showers are in the forecast through that period, with highs climbing from the chilly 30s Saturday into the balmy lower 60s by Tuesday. A sharp cold front moving through Tuesday night may spark off a round of heavy showers and thunderstorms, with colder air to follow late Wednesday into Thursday.
