SLIGHT RISK of severe storms is possible today. The main threats are damaging winds and large hail.
An area of mainly light rain showers will pass through this morning. This will be followed by more rounds of showers and thunderstorms as the day progresses. Temperatures will start in the mid 60s and rise to near 75° by 10am and 78° around noon.
The storm system that helped create a major tornado outbreak in the central and southern Plains Sunday and Monday has now moved into the Ohio Valley. While we do NOT expect the kind of severe outbreak that Oklahoma has experienced, we will have numerous rounds of thunderstorms, some of which could be severe. A SLIGHT RISK for storms containing large hail and locally damaging winds is in place through this afternoon. Highs will be a bit cooler, topping out around 80°.
BIG COOL DOWN:
A secondary cold front swings through Thursday, possibly touching off a few scattered thundershowers. Everyone dries out after that, with much cooler air taking over for week’s end. Highs drop into the mid 70s by Friday, with overnight lows as chilly as the upper 40s to start the holiday weekend.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND:
Expect a slow moderation in temperatures Saturday into Memorial Day (Monday), with just a slight chance for a thundershower Monday. Highs climb back into the 80s with overnight lows climbing back into the upper 50s late in the weekend.
