Flash Flood Watch thru Friday

***FLASH FLOOD WATCH*** in effect from I-65 eastward until 7am Friday morning

Areas of light to moderate rain with occasional downpours are likely mainly along and east of I-65.

A vigorous wave of energy will surge northward from out of the Deep South today sending lots of moisture northward. The end result will be a wet 4th of July for much of South-Central KY. Expect periods of rain and thunderstorms, with some heavy rain at times. Readings will be kept cool with clouds and rain around. Highs will range from the mid 70s for Bowling Green and points east to near 80° west. More showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight with lows in the upper 60s.

While it won’t rain constantly, the risk for showers and thunderstorms remains quite high for much of the remainder of the holiday weekend. Locally heavy rainfall is also possible, with two day rainfall totals of up to 4″ possible for areas east of I-65. Highs will top out around 80° Friday and Saturday. Rainfall coverage backs off a bit Sunday, although scattered thunderstorms remain in the forecast. Highs climb into the lower 80s to round out the weekend.

The upper level low that will dominate our weather through the weekend will slowly lose its influence on us early next week. Chances for rain will decrease somewhat, with mainly scattered afternoon and early evening thunderstorms expected. Highs will climb back to near seasonal levels (upper 80s to near 90°) late in the period, with muggy overnights.
