The brunt of an unusually chilly air mass for October is settling into South-Central KY. We barely made it into the 50s Wednesday despite some afternoon sunshine! The next couple of days and nights will bring us more well below normal temperatures. The last in a series of Clipper system races through the Commonwealth today. There won’t be much moisture with it, but a few sprinkles are possible over mainly northern and eastern portions of the area. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that a few wet snowflakes or ice pellets could mix in with any light rain, but any frozen precip will not accumulate.
The biggest issue will come with cold overnight readings Friday morning and again Saturday morning. With clearing skies tonight, we will likely wake up to readings in the upper 20s with widespread frost Friday morning. We could the mercury dip a bit lower Saturday morning, with middle 20s and a widespread hard freeze possible. Take the necessary steps to save any outdoor plants/vegetation that may be vulnerable to these temperatures.
A WARMING TREND:
A moderation in the chill begins Saturday, with fair skies and upper 50s expected for WKU’s Homecoming. The warming continues into early next week, with showers back in the forecast for late Tuesday into Wednesday.
