Watching Snow Chances

This is the GFS model output (only one of many models) for Thursday showing the real possibility of seeing snow across much of the region. Should this model verify, we could see an inch or two of snow in Southern Kentucky by Thursday afternoon.

MORNING NOWCAST:
A clear and cold start with abundant sunshine through the day.
8am: Sunny 27°
10am: Sunny 32°
12 Noon: Sunny 39°

NEW YEAR’S EVE:
The final day of 2013 will be a nice one! We should see more sunshine along with a bit of a warmup. Highs will climb into the lower 40s for most. If you plan to be out and about to ring in the new year tonight, expect dry and chilly conditions. Lows will fall into the 20s under mainly clear skies.

NEW YEAR’S DAY/REST OF WEEK:
The new year starts out a little warmer, but another Arctic blast will arrive by Thursday. New Year’s Day will feature mostly sunny conditions and temperatures pushing 50. Our next weather maker looks to arrive very late Wednesday night into early Thursday. This one could bring us a round of light rain or snow going over to all light snow Thursday. Any snow amounts with this system appear minor at this point. We will see highs drop back into the cold 30s Thursday and Friday, however.

THE FIRST WEEKEND OF 2014:
There will be some moderation in temperatures moving into the weekend. While Saturday appears dry, Sunday holds a chance for rain and/or snow, with light snow possible Sunday night into Monday morning. More cold, arctic air arrives early next week.

NEW YEAR’S EVE DAY:
Mostly Sunny and Warmer…High 43, winds SW-4

TONIGHT:
Mainly Clear and Cold…Low 25, winds Light

NEW YEAR’S DAY:
Mostly Sunny, Even Warmer…High 50, winds S-6
